About

I am a trained painter, with a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Punjab, Pakistan. My academic training also includes printmaking and sculpture.

I’ve lived, painted and exhibited as I moved through South Asia and the Middle East. Now I call Canada home.

As a contemporary artist, I work primarily with oils on canvas. My work has always been a response to my environment. However, over the years the forms became increasingly simple, the colour palette more personal and the line started asserting itself as a prominent element of the design. Perhaps this evolution is reflective of my inner journey as it is almost ‘dictated’ from within.

Initially, the best days were those when I managed to just get out of the way and let the painting go where it wanted to! Now, I’ve learnt how to listen more closely, keep my training and technique in service of the language as it takes shape.

It has been a very organic shift for me.

I feel privileged to work on my craft and celebrate moments of serendipity. It fills me with humility and wonderment.

I paint to rejoice, reflect, and remember.

It is my ode to life.
